The sentinel stone at the entrance to Seresin in Marlborough signals the path not only to this wonderful winery but also to the company's philosophy. The stone bears a subtle handprint, a symbol of the individual and of creative endeavour; it represents Seresin's philosophy to blend tradition with technology, to work with natural elements and elicit a true Marlborough character in its wines.
Michael Seresin, a New Zealand born filmmaker based in London, is the sole owner of Seresin Vineyards and Winery. The property is situated on the Wairau Plains in Marlborough. Michael bought the 167-acre holding in 1992 with planting taking place immediately. This was followed by subsequent purchases of a further 80 acres and the planting of 5,000 olive trees imported from Tuscany and numerous native plantings.
Seresin's entire estate is managed organically and biodynamically, and is certified organic with Bio-Gro, and working through biodynamic certification with Demeter International. This encompasses all three of their vineyards; the "Home Vineyard", located in the central pocket of the valley, "Tatou", located just slightly west up the Wairau Valley, and the "Raupo Creek", located in the Omaka Valley, is also managed under the same organic principles but is yet to receive organic certification.
