Wine
Tim and Judy Finn planted Neudorf Vineyards in 1978. They wanted to make beautiful wine. Today the winery is still small (they crush about 180 tonnes) but has an international reputation for superbly structured and poised wines.
Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 07 earned 97/100 from Bob Campbell MW with the comment "this wine cements Neudorf's reputation as New Zealand's leading Chardonnay producer."
But increasingly Neudorf has built a reputation for supple and silky Pinot Noirs combining the earthy notes of Burgundy with the sweet dark fruit of the New World.
Neudorf draws grapes from the free draining alluvial soils of Brightwater to produce fine, lifted aromatics, and from the ancient gravelly clays of the Moutere Hills, where they reflect a deep minerality and complexity.
Winemaker John Kavanagh creates wines of texture and balance and seeks to enhance the natural attributes of both sites. The trio at Neudorf have recently been joined by Richard Flatman (previously Two Paddocks in Central Otago) who is now viticulturalist.
