Wine
Established in 1896, Te Mata Estate remains family owned, producing internationally recognised wines exclusively from its Hawke's Bay vineyards.
Te Mata Estate's reputation as New Zealand's most outstanding winery is based upon the quality of its flagship wines, Elston, Cape Crest, Zara, Bullnose, Awatea and Coleraine. Grown in the estate's original vineyards on the slopes of Te Mata Peak, and the renowned Triangle area of the western plains, they are handmade wines of excellence, representing the finest expression of Te Mata Estate. With their complexity, structure and balance these wines reward careful cellaring through their continued evolution in bottle.
Te Mata Estate acquired Woodthorpe, an historic Hawke's Bay property, in 1993. Its expansive, elevated river terraces have since been planted as a unique, single vineyard. Woodthorpe's ideal aspect and free draining soils provide Te Mata Estate with five single vineyard wines. The quality of the vineyard is immediately apparent in these wines; each displaying fresh and intense varietal characters, with Te Mata Estate's characteristically elegant winemaking.
